Is There An Easy Way To Eliminate Credit Card Debt?

Is there an easy way to eliminate credit card debt? While there are no magic button remedies that will bring overnight relief, the process of eliminating credit card debt does not have to be overly difficult either. The real key to finding a permanent solution to your debt problem is having the proper mindset. Without a proper mindset, the actions you take to resolve your situation will fall short of their intended results. Proper mindset begins with the desire to change. That desire has to be concrete and cannot be undermined by spur of the moment impulsive actions. If you are unwilling to adopt this mindset and internalize this desire, then no debt elimination solution is going to be effective for you.

Once you have determined deep within yourself that there is no turning back from the process, you will be ready to begin taking action. Taking action requires daily discipline on your part. The starting point is the development of a household budget. Sit down with a notepad, a calculator and any other decision maker in your household. Pull out all of your bills and your bank statement. Start by listing your monthly take home income. Next you will want to list all payments that are due each month. This not only includes your credit card bills, but it also includes utilities, car payments, mortgage and other billable expenses. Once those things are listed, you will want to list the basic household necessities such as groceries, clothing, medical care, gasoline and car insurance.

If the total of the expenses is greater than the amount of monthly income received, you will need to formulate a plan to reduce your expenditures. This is why the mindset is so critical. If you have not made a concrete commitment to eliminate your credit card debt, you are unlikely to make the sacrifices necessary to balance your household budget and your debt problem will continue to grow. When looking to make reductions in your household budget, the first place to look is the non-necessity items in your expenditures. This might include such things as dining out, entertainment, magazine subscriptions and cable television. These reductions are made until the debt burden is eliminated from the budget. Once these items have been exhausted, the next place of adjustment is in the fixed expenses. This may include such drastic steps as the sale of an automobile or the downsizing of a home. Again the goal is to eliminate the level of indebtedness.

From this point it is time to develop a game plan that will not only manage your debt, but one that will completely eliminate it.

Here are some simple steps to gaining control of your financial situation once again. By applying these steps you will not only reduce your problem debt, but you will eliminate the burden of your indebtedness altogether.

Your first step is taking an honest inventory of your current financial situation. List all of your outstanding credit accounts on a sheet of paper. You will want to include the name of the credit card, the balance, the payment due date and current APR. After you have made the list, you will want to arrange the accounts in descending order from most severe to least severe. This ordering of accounts could be done either by starting with the highest APR card or the card with the highest outstanding balance.
